Three students taken back to Sufia Kamal Hall

Three resident students of Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall of Dhaka University who were forced out of the on Thursday midnight were allowed back in the hall Friday night. The university authorities had claimed that the students were handed over to their guardians for ‘spreading rumours on Facebook’ before April 11-protests against hall unit Bangladesh Chhatra League president Iffat Jahan Esha. The hall provost Sabita Rezwana Chowdhury and house tutors told media that three students returned back to the hall on Friday but they declined give further details. The students are Sharmin Shuvo, a second year student, Parvin, a fourth year student of mathematics department and Kamrunnahar Liza, a fourth year student of Theatre and Performance Studies department. Despite weekend, the agitating students of Dhaka University on Friday afternoon brought out a procession on the campus protesting the hall authorities' action against some students, while Bangladesh Chhatra League men took position on the campus. Four Ruquiayah Hall students protested ousting of their fellows from Sufia Kamal hall showing placards when Dhaka University vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman came to their hall in the evening for a ‘Rag day’ programme. Akhtaruzzaman told New Age on Friday that was completely a rumour that some students were forced out of Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall. ‘Hall authorities handed three students over to their guardians for their alleged involvement in spreading rumour about the hall through fake Facebook accounts,’ he had said.
