Bangamata helped Bangabandhu became great leader: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa had the unparalleled quality and capacity to give the right decision at any crisis moment and she helped Bangabandhu become the great leader. ‘In any crisis moment, my mother had the unparalleled capacity to give the right decisions,’ she said. The Prime Minister said this while addressing a function marking the 88th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here. She said the time-befitting decisions of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa had helped the country achieve its desired goal -- the independence. Sheikh Hasina, the eldest child of Bangabandhu and Bangamata, briefly described some incidents, including the historic March 7 Speech and the release of Bangabandhu and others in historic Agartala conspiracy case when Bangamata took some bold and right decisions at the right time. Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa had also made huge sacrifices for Bangladesh’s independence, she said. Hasina went on saying, ‘The defeated forces, their companions, Pakistani occupational forces and their collaborators, the vested quarter that never wanted the liberation of the country, the hypocrites who betrayed the country and did not spare my mother on August 15.’ She said Bangamata was the source of all encouragement, power and courage for Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to work for the development and welfare of people. ‘My mother always encouraged him to do politics for the people of this country, never pulled him back, she never cared for her own interests; even she never thought what she will get in life,’ she said. Hasina said Bangamata helped the Father of the Nation from behind the scene and Bangabandhu could become the great leader as she was beside him. About the influence of Bangabandhu's wife in his political life, Hasina said Bangamata helped Bangabandhu in taking various important political decisions. She mentioned the suggestions of her mother to Bangabandhu before he had gone to deliver the historic Match 7th address at Suhrawardy Uddyan in 1971. Hasina said Bangabandhu used to learn about the leaders and workers of the party through his wife when she met him in jail during the Pakistan period.
