Total infections from coronavirus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, have reached 436,684 in Bangladesh with the detection of 2,212 new cases over the previous 24 hours till Monday. Besides, the highly contagious virus has taken the lives of 39 more people during the period to put the national tally to 6,254. Of the new deceased, 30 are men and nine are women. Among the total dead, 4,813 or 76.96 percent are men while 1,435 or 23.04 percent are women. Currently, there are 77,535 active cases in the country. Bangladesh reported its first three coronavirus cases on March 8 last while the first death on March 18. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon. As per the press release, 1,749 more patients recuperated in the last 24 hours to take the total recoveries in the country to 352,895. During the period, 15,990 samples were tested in 116 labs across the country. With this, a total of 2,572,952 samples have so far been tested in the country. The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 13.83 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 16.96 percent. The recovery rate in Bangladesh stands at 80.81 percent. Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.43 percent. On Monday, the country logged 21 deaths and 2,139 infections from coronavirus after testing 15,768 samples with a positivity rate of 13.57 percent. Meanwhile, coronavirus has infected 532,302 people around the world in the last 24 hours till 10am on Tuesday, bringing the total cases to 55,349,408. Besides, the virus claimed the lives of 1,332,328 people, including 7,871 during the period, globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer. Of the currently infected 15,525,843 patients, 15,426,067 are in mild condition while 99,776 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 38,491,237 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 11,538,057 and 252,651 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 8,874,172 and third highest fatalities of 130,559 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 166,067 and third highest cases of 5,876,740.
