‘Drug trader’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives at Shambhuganj Charpuliamari in Sadar upazila early Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Sumon Mia, 27, son of Suruj Driver of Kalibari in the upazila, and also a listed criminal, reports the UNB. Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive in the area around 1:45 am, said Shaha Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of District DB police. Sensing presence of the policemen, the criminals opened fire on them forcing the law enforcers to fire back in self-defence. The criminals also hurled brickbats to police, said the OC. Later, police recovered the body of Sumon and took it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Police recovered four kgs of hemp and ten shells of bullet from the spot.
