The High Court on Wednesday denied bail to Bakhtiar Alam Rony, the son of former Awami League MP Pinu Khan, in the Eskaton double murder case where he was sentenced to life imprisonment. The HC bench, led by Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan, passed the order after hearing a bail petition. On January 30, 2019, Rony was sentenced to life imprisonment in the double murder case. He was also fined Tk 50,000. Rony fired shots indiscriminately on people near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton from his car on April 13, 2015, injuring rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub. Hakim died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital two days later while Yakub died from his injuries at the hospital on April 23. A case was filed at Ramna Police Station against unidentified people on April 15. On June 1, Rony was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence.
