India reports record 69,652 coronavirus cases in 24 hours

India has registered a record number of new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours with an increase in testing.

The 69,652 new cases reported on Thursday push India’s total cases past 28 lakh.

However, 20 lakh of them have already recovered.

The Indian Health Ministry says another 977 coronavirus fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours, raising total deaths to 53,866.

India has conducted 30 lakh tests for the virus, but experts have urged increasing its testing capacity greatly, given India has the world’s second-highest population of 140 crore.

It has the third-most reported cases in the world after the United States and Brazil, and has the fourth highest number of reported deaths behind the US, Brazil and Mexico.
