Maintain agricultural progress to avoid food shortage: PM

Stating that food security can be ensured if the progress in the agriculture sector sustains, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said her government is working in a planned way to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Prime Minister made the remarks at the weekly meeting of the Executive Meeting of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Tuesday. She said though coronavirus hit hard the country’s economy, the government is trying to maintain the dynamism in various sectors, including in agriculture. "The coronavirus is pushing us back. Even the, we have to keep the pace of progress in the agriculture sector so that our people don’t suffer, at least from food shortage,” she said. Sheikh Hasina also said her government is providing all sorts of assistance to the agriculture sector so that the country’s food security is not affected. Talking about the 2030 sustainable development agenda, the PM said the government will continue pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve the targets which are particularly effective for Bangladesh. “We’ll have to achieve SDGs as well, particularly its 17 goals effective for our country.
