The police have stopped a group of Dhaka University students, who are staging demonstration for the second day today demanding deferment of polls to two Dhaka cities scheduled for January 30, at Shahbagh intersection. The demonstrators began a march towards the Election Commission office in Agargaon, protesting the authorities' decision of holding the polls to Dhaka north and south city corporations on January 30 as it coincides with Saraswati Puja. Hundreds of students holding placards gathered in front of the Raju Sculpture on the DU campus in the morning and were seen giving slogans. At one stage, the students blocked Shahbagh intersection and were seen continuing their demonstration to press home their demand for deferment of the upcoming Dhaka city corporation elections to a different date instead of January 30.
