No Kumari Puja in Dhaka this time

There will be no Kumari Puja at any puja mandap in the capital during Durga Puja this year due to the coronavirus prevalence. Hindu devotees celebrate Kumari Puja on the Maha Ashtami every year where a pre-pubescent girl is worshipped as “Mother Goddess”. The main programmes of the five-day puja will also be held in a scaled-back manner maintaining recommended health guidelines. At the same time, there will be no procession during the immersion of idols this year. The information was revealed at a press conference organised by Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad on Saturday. The news conference was told that a total of 33 directives have been issued over the celebration of Durga Puja amid the pandemic. Puja mandaps will have to be closed by 9pm every day during the five-day celebrations. The Durga Puja is set to begin on October 22 and end on October 26 with the immersion of idols.
