Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said the government has no plan to impose value added tax on the private universities as stated by finance minister AMA Muhith on Monday, said planning minister AHM Mostafa Kamal on Tuesday. Kamal said the prime minister cleared her position during the meeting of the executive committee of the National Economic Council at the planning commission. He said Muhith was present during thre meeting. Asked whether Muhith said anything there, Kamal said the prime minister’s directive is final. In 2015, Muhith declared brining of private educational institutes under VAT net but its enforcement kept suspended in the face of widespread protest by students.
