Opener Johnson Charles hammered a blistering ton as Mashrafe Mortaza led Rangpur Riders stormed into the final of AKS Bangladesh Premier League T20 beating Comilla Victorians by 36 runs in the second qualifier held on Monday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur here. Rangpur will now play the final against defending champions Dhaka Dynamites in the title deciding-final match scheduled to be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6 pm. Chasing a massive winning target of 193-run set by Rangpur, Comilla found the chase stiff and finally dismissed at 156 in 20 overs. The two openers Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das however gave Comilla a good start contributing 54-run for the opening stand. The left handed opener Tamim smashed 19-ball off 36 runs laced with six boundaries and one over boundary before he fell to Mashrafe Mortaza while Isuru Udana sent back to Liton das who scored 28-ball of 39-run hitting three boundaries and two over boundaries. Sohag Gazi dismissed Imrul Kayes for duck while Nazmul Hasan scalped the wicket of dependable batsman Shoaib Malik for 10. Marlon Samuels (27) and Jos Buttler (26) however kept the momentum in the middle but Rangpur bowler kept threatening picking up wicket in regular intervals. Rubel Hossain was the pick of Rangpur bowler as he grabbed three wickets conceding 34n runs. He was well supported by Ravi Bopara and Isuru Udanawho both shared two wickets each conceding 17 and 24 runs respectively. Johnson Charles of Rangpur Riders was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance. Earlier, Charles blasted 105 runs off 63 powered Rangpur to amass a massive total of 192 for 3 from their allotted 20 overs, after they were forced to bat first by Comilla. It was a make-shift reserve day in Mirpur as the Qualifier 2 match in BPL was delayed due to rain on Sunday. Johnson Charles smashed seven sixes and nine boundaries during the process of his magnificent ton he also shared a record 151-run second-wicket stand with Brendon McCullum who provided an ample support with 78 runs off 46 smacking nine sixes and one boundary. Hasan Ali, Mohammad Saifuddin and Mehedi Hasan shared one wicket each conceding 23, 38 and 44 runs respectively. It was feared that if the game had been washed away by the rain, the Comilla Victorians would go through to the final because of their higher rank in the group stages. Earlier, Dhaka Dynamites have secured their spot in the final in BPL and Rangpur Riders come into this fixture on the back of Gayle' storm which blew away Khulna Titans in the Eliminator.
