Seven ‘extremists’ arrested in Chittagong


The Rapid Action Battalion arrested seven members of an alleged extremist group from Chittagong city’s Anandabag area on Friday.

The arrested were Md Tamim, Md Azfar, Md Imran, Md Palash, Md Redwan, SM Jaowad, Md Muntasir, said RAB-7 senior assistant director Mimtanur Rahman.

Mimtanur said that the arrested were members of extremist groups ‘Deen Force Extreme’.

The RAB arrested the seven activists 6:00pm after raiding on a house at Anandabag area under Kotwali police station in Chittagong city, Mimtanur said.

They also recovered large number of books propagating extremism, three laptops and eight mobile phones from them, Mimtanur added.

Mimtanur said, ‘the arrested were planning to attack Pahela Baishakh programmes in Chittagong.’
