Bangladesh: Covid cases stand at 544,544

Bangladesh has registered 428 fresh infections from coronavirus during the latest 24 hours till Wednesday, bringing the total cases to 544,544. Besides, five more deaths were reported from the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period, raising the national death toll to 8,379. Of the new deceased, four are men and one is woman. Among the total dead, 6,339 are men while 2,040 are women. Currently, there are 42,367 active cases in the country. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon. As per the press release, 911 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 493,798. The recovery rate also stands at 90.68 per cent. During the period, 16,152 samples were tested in 214 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,987,676 samples have so far been tested in the country. The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 2.65 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 13.66 per cent Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.54 per cent. On Tuesday, the country recorded 18 deaths and 399 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,748 samples with a positivity rate of 3.13 per cent. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have jumped to 112,649,905 across the world as of Wednesday morning. Besides, the virus has so far claimed the lives of 2,496,666 people globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer. Of the currently infected 21,918,222 patients, 21,896,115 are in mild condition while 92,183 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 88,235,017 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide. The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 28,897,718 and 514,996 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 11,029,326 and third highest fatalities of 156,598 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 248,646 and third highest cases of 10,260,621.
