Bangladesh on Monday reported 316 more coronavirus cases over the latest 24 hours till Monday, taking the total infections to 538,378. Besides, casualties from the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, have reached 8,221 with the registration of 16 new deaths during the period. Of the new deceased, 12 are men and four are women. Among the total dead, 6,229 are men while 1,992 are women. Currently, there are 46,226 active cases in the country. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon. As per the press release, 559 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 483,931. The recovery rate also stands at 89.81 per cent. During the period, 13,762 samples were tested in 206 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,762,774 samples have so far been tested in the country. The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 2.30 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 14.31 per cent Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.53 per cent. On Sunday, the country registered 15 deaths and 292 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,404 samples with a positivity rate of 2.35 per cent. Meanwhile, reported coronavirus cases have reached 106,685,660 around the world as of Monday morning. Besides, 2,327,308 people have so far died from the virus infections globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer. Of the currently infected 25,827,016 patients, 25,869,374 are in mild condition while 103,758 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 78,531,336 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide. The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 27,611,403 and 474,933 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,838,843 and third highest fatalities of 155,114 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 231,561 and third highest cases of 9,524,640.
