Covid: Bangladesh records 385 fresh infections

The coronavirus caseload in Bangladesh has reached 546,216 after the health authorities announced the detection of 385 fresh infections over the previous 24 hours till Sunday. Besides, eight more people lost their battle to virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period to bring the national death toll to 8,408. Of the new deceased, six are men and two are women. Among the total dead, 6,359 are men while 2,049 are women. Currently, there are 40,884 active cases in the country. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon. As per the press release, 817 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 496,924. The recovery rate also stands at 90.98 per cent. During the period, 13,411 samples were tested in 214 labs across the country. With this, a total of 4,044,027 samples have so far been tested in the country. The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 2.87 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 13.51 per cent Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.54 per cent. On Saturday, the country recorded five deaths and 407 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,348 samples with a positivity rate of 3.30 per cent. Meanwhile, the global death tally from coronavirus has reached 2,537,560 as of Sunday morning. Besides, the virus has so far sickened 114,376,954 people across the world, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer. Of the currently infected 21,908,729 patients, 21,818,421 are in mild condition while 90,308 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 89,930,665 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide. The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 29,202,824 and 524,669 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 11,096,731 and third highest fatalities of 157,087 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 254,263 and third highest cases of 10,517,232.
