A union parishad member was beaten to death by unknown miscreants in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari on Tuesday night. Son of Najir Mandal, deceased Md Shawkat Ali Mandal, was a member of ward no:4 of Mourat UP. Some miscreants started beating Shawkat, also the general secretary of ward no: 4 unit Awami League, around 9pm when he was sitting at Mourat Bazar, said Mourat UP chairman Habibur Rahman. Critically injured Shawkat was taken to Upazila Health Complex. From where he was shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital following deterioration of his condition. Later, he died at the hospital around 1:30am. Pangsha Police Station OC Ahsan Ullah said, "Police visited the spot at night and the investigation is going on to nab the killers." Shawkat's relative Helal Mandal alleged that Shawkat might have been killed over previous enmity.
